WILL LABOUR KEEP THE MINIMUM INCOME FOR VISA?

Previous Secretary of State for the Home Office, said that the increase will be phased in and the Minimum Income Threshold, MIR will initially be increased to £29,000 in Spring 2024 rather than £38,700.

Last updated 10 July 2024

In April 2024, MIR threshold was raised to £29,000, that is the 25th percentile of earnings for jobs which are eligible for Skilled Worker visas, moving to the 40th percentile (currently £34,500) and finally the 50th percentile (currently £38,700 and the level at which the general skilled worker threshold is set) in the final stage of implementation." ONE RULE FOR ALL

The current additional income requirements for children was scrapped as part of the changes. Flat rate income threshold applies regardless of any children being sponsored.

Those who already have a family visa within the five-year partner route, or who apply before the minimum income threshold was raised, continue to have their applications assessed against the old income requirement and will not be required to meet the increased threshold.

The aforesaid will also be the case for children seeking to join or accompany parents.

Anyone granted a fiancee visa before the minimum income threshold was raised will also be assessed against the old ( MIR - £18,600) income requirement when they apply for a family visa within the five-year partner route.

Those already in the UK on a different route who apply to switch into the five-year partner route, after the minimum income requirement has been increased, will be subject to the new income requirement.
